How to check a Minnesota plumbing contractor's license

PC

DLI says you do not need an account to look up a license, so you can check before you hire.

Check it in five steps

1

Get the license number

Ask the company for its plumbing contractor license number.

2

Open DLI's lookup

Open DLI's license and registration lookup and go to iMS, the department's licensing system.
Open the DLI lookup

3

Search as a guest

DLI says an account is not required: select "Continue as guest" and enter a complete license or registration number in the search box at the top of the page. You can also use the "Search License/Registration holders" button to search by other criteria.

4

Read the result

DLI says iMS shows the status of a license, plumbing bond holders, and whether there are enforcement actions against a license. In DLI's data, an active license has the status "Issued".

5

Compare

Compare the name and number with what the contractor told you. If anything does not match, contact DLI's Construction Codes and Licensing Division at 651-284-5034 or dli.license@state.mn.us.

The name and number must match what the contractor told you, and the status should be "Issued". Plumbing contractor numbers in DLI's file begin with PC.

What this site lists

This site lists a business only if it had a plumbing contractor license with status "Issued" in the DLI file on November 4, 2026. Licenses can lapse or change after that date, so check the lookup before hiring.
